WHAT IS MILK ? ?

WHAT IS MILK? ? Who Decides?

Why is the price of milk with  3.5 % cream, 2% cream, 1% cream and skimmed milk the same price in the grocery store.

What is whole milk? Who Decides?

The definition of "Whole Milk" seems to be changing. I remember when milk was labeled as whole milk if the cream content was at least 4%.

Evaporated milk had a guarantee that if mixed with an equal amount of water, it was just like whole milk. That label no longer appears on the can.

Why is the price of heavy cream so much more than the price of milk. If it is so valuable, then milk should be worth more or less depending on the amount of cream that is removed. This seems to be a rip-off of the consumer.

I noticed that milk I have purchased lately does not have a label that says whole milk. So, has the definition changed or is there no official definition.

Is there a federal department that grades milk by butter or cream content? If so, which agency is it? ?

Ban ALL Soft Drinks in Schools

Why are sugar drinks banned in many schools, but not artificially sweetened drinks?

Artificial sweetners in soft drinks and added to natural juices and other processes foods and drinks are at least as bad for children as refined sugars and high fructose corn syrup. So I ask again:

Why are sugar drinks banned in many schools, but not artificially sweetened drinks?

Could it be that the process to FDA approval of these toxic additives is pushed by the manufacturing companies which are, in many cases, the same companies that manufacture prescription medicines. These companies spend enormous amounts of money to influence government officials, researchers and on advertisements to consumers.

Chemical companies contribute heavily to colleges and universities that perform research on many of the products they manufacture. If the money stops, university research could be negatively affected.

I have been concerned about artificial sweetners for some time. More at:

Free Ice Cream Cones ? ?

Who for President ?? A few rambling thoughts

Roseanne Barr for President?
How much worse could she be than what we have had for the past ten years?

What we need is a fair nominating system. Today, anyone with access to media exposure can announce a run for any office. Then the media picks a winner by influencing the American voters with lots of emphasis on trivial issues and entertaining comments and interviews. When will the voters stand up to this way of "choosing" our government officials.

A few people who show up for a meeting in a small state start the ball rolling. Very few of the people who file in any primary get publicity. And, by the time the nominating process reaches all of the states, most candidates have been eliminated, either by lack of money (much caused by poor reporting and media opinions masked as news reports) or some other reason that has nothing to do with character or the ability to be a good lawmaker.

The people are not represented by their so-called "elected officials" because in the final analysis, the voters' have little choice. In fact, the choices at the ballot box are very poor as a result of the unfair primary system run by an outdated two-party system.

From now on - when I try to describe someone that I think is not very smart, I will describe them as "stupid enough to be a US Senator. or The President of the US."

Senators can hire pr people to get them elected and then pass laws to keep themselves in power. Maybe they are smarter than I think and we, the American voters, are the stupid ones.

What do you think?

Election Thoughts

News-Record Editorial Writer Doug Clark touched on only one of the many lies, gossip and half truths that are flying everywhere during this election season. It is happening all over the US.

Where are the real reporters? Why aren't they asking questions and demanding answers to relevant issues instead of settling for evasive and ignorant answers? Trivia prevails.

I have been visiting in Georgia and the political garbage there is outrageous. Major candidates are accusing each other of terrible things. This is especially true in the race for Governor of Georgia. I am glad that I don't have to vote in the Georgia Gov. election. I can't find an honest candidate.   The innuendo, gossip, lies, and half-truths during the primary election were outrageous and the only candidate that I would have even considered voting for appeared to be an honest Republican, which is rare these days.
She was edged out by the voters who obviously believed the lies and half-truths of her opponent.
And, don't think that I believe there are many honest Democrats, either. They are almost as rare as hen's teeth, also.

Suggestions for Next Time

When Greensboro gets through the current budget problems, there are certainly things that can be done to avoid more problems in the future.
The Greensboro City Council must approve all bond issues placed on the ballot for voters to approve or not approve.
Previous councils are primarily responsible for the budget problems facing Greensboro today.

I know it is early to start talking about this, but I have been saying it for many years. Here I go again.

Please remind the current council members to review these suggestions before adding more spending for Greensboro taxpayers in the future.

Some questions to ask before putting bond issues on the ballot and before voting for or against them. ! ! !

Is tax money currently being spent wisely?
How will the proposed bond money be spent?

What are the restrictions on spending certain bond money?
What is the actual texts of the proposed bond issue?
Will the bond issue money be supplemented by general revenues?
Will some of the projects be worked into the general budget, even if not funded by bonds?
What is the proposed timetable for selling the bonds?

How long will it take to pay-off the bonds?
Who is providing space for public forums to promote the bonds?
Who is speaking at public forums and how are they chosen?

Why are bond issues promoted on city-county operated television?

I am not encouraging anyone to vote only on pocketbook issues, but a thinking public cannot continue to reward bad spending decisions by increasing the allowance of government. Think about it.

Another fait accompli ? ? ?

...Nobody, except the people who have already made the decision, know the fate of the Elm Street property south of Lee Street.
...Several out-of-area consultants have been brought in to help improve the area. Apparently none of their cookie-cutter plans suited the decision makers. The meetings that I have attended about the area have been unproductive and the plans presented by consultants haven't even been adapted to the needs of Greensboro. It must be easy to dismiss plans if they don't suit the decision makers agenda.
...Greensboro government and the so-called leaders here have been dismissing plans from local and out-of-town consultants and from citizen groups for as long as I have lived in Greensboro (about 40 years).

...Another hotel is needed in Downtown Greensboro. The pickin's are poor for tourists and convention accommodations in the Central Business District. A hotel at each end of Elm Street is a good idea.
...The right kind of hotel could enhance Downtown Greensboro. It could bring more conventions and tourists into the whole Greensboro area.
...I think that the reason there is resistance is because it could possibly take business away from "hotel row" near the Coliseum and from the Grandover complex out by I-85.

Some questions are • Will the people who run Greensboro let this happen?
• Who will pay for it? • Will the entire area be developed by one hand-picked "in current favor" developer? • Who will build and manage it? • Do the people who run Greensboro want to make Elm Street a nice gateway into Greensboro? •

I received this from a friend:

IDIOT SIGHTING:
We had to have the garage door repaired.  The Sears repairman told us
that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor
on the opener.  I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest
one Sears made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower.  He shook his head and
said, "Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower."  I responded that 1/2 was
larger than 1/4.  He said, "NO, it's not.. Four is larger than two..."
We haven't used Sears repair since.

IDIOT SIGHTING:
My daughter and I went through the McDonald's take-out window and  I
gave the clerk a $5 bill.  Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her a
quarter.  She said, "You gave me too much money."  I said, "Yes I know,
but this way you can just give me a dollar bill back."  She sighed and
went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request.  I did so,
and he handed me back the quarter, and said "We're sorry but we cannot
do that kind of thing."  The clerk then proceeded to give me back $1 and
75 cents in change..
Do not confuse the clerks at McD's.

IDIOT SIGHTING:
I live in a semi rural area.  We recently had a new neighbor call the
local township administrative office to request the removal of the DEER
CROSSING sign on our road. The reason: "Too many deer are being hit by
cars out here! I don't think this is a good place for them to be
crossing anymore." - From Kingman, KS .

IDOT SIGHTING AT HOME:
My sister-in-law came to visit for a few days and after taking a shower
that first evening, she calmly told me that our tub had a leak.  I=2
0question this and she says, "Go see for yourself, there's water all
over the floor." I check the tub only to find that she had the shower
curtain on the outside of the tub while showering . She's my husbands
sister and has blond hair.
 - From Westminster, CA

IDIOT SIGHTING IN FOOD SERVICE:
My daughter went to a local Taco Bell and ordered a taco.  She asked the
person behind the counter for 'minimal lettuce.'  He said he was sorry,
but they only had iceberg lettuce.
 - From Kansas City

IDIOT SIGHTING:
I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee
asked, "Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your
knowledge?"  To which I replied, "If it was without my knowledge, how
would I know?"  He smiled knowingly and nodded,  "That's why we ask."
Happened in Birmingham, Ala.

IDIOT SIGHTING:
The stoplight on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross the street.
I was crossing with an intellectually challenged coworker of mine.  She
asked if I knew what the buzzer was for.  I explained that it signals
blind people when the light is red.  Appalled, she responded, "What on
earth are blind people doing driving?!"
She was a probation officer in Wichita, KS

IDIOT SIGHTING:
We were having a good-bye luncheon for an old and dear coworker, as she
was leaving the company due to 'downsizing.'  Our manager commented
cheerfully, "This is fun.  We should do this more often."  Not another
word was spoken. We all just looked at each other with that
deer-in-the-headlights stare.
This was a lunch at Texas Instruments.

IDIOT SIGHTING:
I work with an individual who plugged her power strip back into itself
and for the sake of her life, couldn't understand why her system would
not turn on.
A deputy with the Dallas County Sheriff's office, no less.

IDIOT SIGHTING:
When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our
car, we were told the keys had been locked in it.  We went to the
service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the
driver side door.  As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively
tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. "Hey," I
announced to the technician, "It's open!"  His reply, "I know. I already
got that side.
This was at the Ford dealership in Canton, MS.

IDIOT SIGHTING:
When I left  Hawaii and was transferred to Florida, I still had the
Hawaiian plates on my car, as my car was shipped from Hawaii.  I was
parking somewhere (I can't remember) and a guy asked me "Wow, you drove
from Hawaii to here?"  I looked at him and quickly said "Yep. I took the
Hawaii/San Francisco Bridge". He nodded his head and said "Cool!"

STAY ALERT!  They walk among us. . . and they REPRODUCE. . .
And worst of all. . . . . . . . .. . . . .
